The Shining Illustrated edition
Background
This edition of The Shining reinterprets the novel through a series of illustrations and a carefully crafted text layout, creating a visually immersive reading experience. The goal was to capture the book’s dark themes of isolation, madness, and the supernatural while maintaining a cohesive design from cover to endpages.
Outcome
Using ink wash painting, I created seven illustrations that reflect the novel’s unsettling atmosphere. Chapter headings were designed to integrate seamlessly with the overall layout, enhancing the visual flow. The cover design, contrasting with the darker illustrations, draws from the novel’s art deco influences, reinforcing its eerie yet sophisticated aesthetic.
